Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, Senator Ganiyu Solomon, Supo Sashore, Adeyemi Ikuforiji, Dr. Femi Hamzat and other Lagos gubernatorial aspirants, all aspirants, 13 in number held a meeting with Bola Tinubu on sunday night. Also in attendance were other party leaders as well as party stakeholders such as former acting national chairman of the party, Chief Bisi Akande, state chairman of the party, Chief Henry Ajomale among others.
The agenda of the meeting which took place at the Bourdillion residence of Bola Tinubu was about the forthcoming Lagos gubernatorial elections. Tinubu took time to assure all aspirants that there was no consensus candidate, and that contrary to rumors, he has never anointed any candidate to succeed Fashola. Tinubu told all aspirants that there would certainly be primaries and that everybody should go and work hard to emerge the party flag bearer.
There had been rumors that Tinubu is personally involved with one of the candidates, but on Sunday night, in the meeting, Tinubu came out to openly deny that allegation.
For months now, the Lagos APC have been shaky and rocking due to internal disaffection among guber aspirants over perceived support and backing Tinubu have been giving one of the aspirants it has been alleged. In fact, many people have predicted that APC might lose Lagos to the PDP due to the heated polity and in house fighting withing the Lagos APC. Someone like Ganiyu Solomon had openly told Tinubu he wasn’t going to step down for anyone this time. Others, like Muiz Banire just to name a few have also been unhappy over the way the whole things had been handled thus far and these are faithful party pillars. Should be depart the APC that would certainly shake the Lagos APC to it’s foundations.
It remains to be seen just how much healing this meeting has or will bring to the already unhappy and aggrieved Lagos APC guber aspirants. Only time will tell as 2015 draws new. One thing is clear though, the PDP may just be waiting to capitalize on the APC in house troubles to finally snatch Lagos, this is one thing the PDP have been daying to do, that is win and rule Lagos state.
