For the Anaocha Local Government Area where Prof. Dora Akunyili began her public service career, her demise is seen as a big loss. According to the executive chairman of the Council, Hon. Ikeobi Ejiofor, the people are mourning Akunyili’s departure as they have never done before. He said: “Anaocha people, Anambra people, Nigeria and the world at large are mourning Her Excellency, the late Prof. Dora Akunyili. During her time, she was an exemplary leader, a diplomat, an excellent woman and a mother because, for us, especially people of Agulu, people of Anaocha, people of Anambra Central, she played a key role in the development and socio-political emancipation of the people. She spoke for the masses and cared for the elderly, the less privileged and I am sure all of us have been bereaved by her death. I must say God is with us, the people of Anaocha because I think it happened at a time we needed her most. Be that as it may, God, who is the Almighty, has taken her away from us.”
“I just pray that God gives us the peace to cherish all the good things that Dora did in her lifetime. The family, the people of Agulu, the people of Anaocha and the people of Nanka as well, where she hailed from, in Orumba North, have been mourning the loss of Dora but behold, that is God’s choice.”
