In less than 24 hours after Ibrahim Magu, acting chairman of EFCC set up a committee to work on the process of making the NFIU autonomous but domiciled within the EFCC, a bill was introduced on the Senate floor seeking to completely separate the NFIU from the EFCC.
The bill sponsored by Utazi Chukwuka, representing Enugu south, wants to make the NFIU a full agency devoid of EFCC control.
Upon introduction on Thursday on the Senate floor, the bill passed the first reading within an hour. The senate president then directed the rules and business committee to slate the bill for second reading next week so that legislation can be passed soonest .
