Lagos city marathon race, organized by Access Bank, one of Nigeria’s most valuable banking brand and foremost financial institution, attracted world class participants from all over the world. Lagos city marathon lived up to it’s billing and surpassed all expectations.
In the male category, Kenya’s own Abraham Kiptum put in a world class performance and came out tops, beating all other marathoners across the world to win the first Access Bank Lagos City Marathon Saturday at a time of two hours, 16 minutes and 21 seconds (2:16:21).
In the female category, Halima Huseen Kayo of Ethiopia was the winner of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon.
Kenya’s Abraham Kiptu, winner of the marathon, will take home $50,000, while Nigeria’s Emmanuel Gyan from Plateau State who came 7th in the race will take home the sum of N1 million for his effort.
Dignitaries at the finishing line includ,e Akinwunmi Ambode, Governor of Lagos State, , Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen Tukur Buratai, Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung, Hamad Kalkaba Malboum, a Cameroon national, current President of the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA).
